How to play
This is a point-and-click game. Click an empty square to place your mark, then wait for your opponent to place theirs. Occupied squares cannot be changed, so each move is final. The generic note about arrow keys and Space on some game pages does not really apply to a board game like this; the mouse or a tap on a touchscreen is all you need.
Because the game is solved, perfect play from both sides always ends in a draw. Wins come from the other side making a mistake, so the real skill is spotting the moment they do.
Tips
- Open with a corner. It gives your opponent the most ways to go wrong; the only correct reply is the centre.
- Take the centre if it is free. It sits on four of the eight possible winning lines, more than any other square.
- Build a fork: make a move that creates two separate threats at once. Your opponent can only block one, so you win next turn.
- Before every move, check whether your opponent has two in a line. Blocking that comes before any plan of your own.
