Icy Purple Head Series Guide: Super Slide, 2 and 3

There is more than one Icy Purple Head, and the old version of this site did not make that easy to see: its front page said “Icy Purple Head 3” while serving a different game. This guide sorts out the three that play on icypurplehead.org, what they share and how they differ, so you know which one you are in.

What every Icy game has in common

The hero is always the same square purple head with big front teeth, and he always has the same trick. Freeze him and he becomes a slippery ice cube; thaw him and he is a soft, sticky head that grips what he touches. The levels are made of ice beams, slopes and machines, and the goal is a cardboard delivery box. It is a physics puzzle with one control, so the challenge is timing and reading the level, not fast fingers.

Icy Purple Head: Super Slide (front page)

The game on our home page. Its title screen spells out ICY, PURPLEHEAD and SUPER SLIDE over a snowy hill, with an orange play button. The control is hold-based: keep the mouse button or a finger down and Icy stays frozen and slides; release and he sticks. Levels are set on long ice beams under a starry night sky and count up to 30. The machinery is the richest of the three: fans, orange speed boosters, green slime, spike rows and spike wheels, bounce pads, punch plates, teleport doors and moving platforms, with purple checkpoint flags in the longer levels. The pause screen shows the level grid.

Icy Purple Head 2

Icy Purple Head 2 opens on a snowy title with ICY in big ice letters and PURPLE HEAD 2 underneath. Its levels are single screens framed in ice. Icy starts at the top on a tilted beam, and an Express Delivery box waits below. The same tutorial card, a finger pressing a phone, shows the freeze. Where Super Slide is about long runs, the second game is about getting one screen right, so each level is shorter and more like a puzzle.

Icy Purple Head 3

Icy Purple Head 3 gives the head a yellow cap, a daytime blue-sky look, and a longer run of 40 levels, shown as LEVEL 1/40. The ice is now chunky snow logs propped on wooden stands, and the goal is a box with a round MAIL sticker. The tutorial card again shows a tap and the switch between the purple head and the ice cube. It is the best choice if you have finished the other two.

Which to play first

Start with Super Slide on the front page. Its hold-to-freeze control is the easiest to understand, and the early levels teach one thing at a time. Then try Icy Purple Head 2 for compact single-screen puzzles, and keep Icy Purple Head 3 for last because it has the most levels. If you like the idea more than the character, the games page has other physics puzzles too, such as Red Ball 4, Circloo, Sugar Sugar 2 and Heart Star.
